Vial of Tears

Noelle Daly, The American Interest, 10/1/2010

My Daddy's Name is Donor, a survey led by Elizabeth Marquardt, director of the Center for Children and Families at the Institute for American Values, is an unprecedented study of young adults conceived by sperm donation... Her survey makes clear that, among a diverse, fairly representative group of nearly 500 donor-conceived adults, struggles with questions of origin, identity, confusion and loss are common – and are more pronounced among those born to single mothers than to heterosexual or lesbian couples. Compared with equal numbers of people raised by biological or adoptive parents, the donor offspring surveyed were twice as likely to report substance abuse and delinquency.
