This week, Blankenhorn's organization, the Institute for American Values, released a paper calling for a new national conversation on marriage. In and of itself, that's not remarkable. But it is when you consider that he was a key leader in the fight against same-sex marriage in California. Now his call is a partnership with same-sex advocates and others. Blankenhorn says he's shifting gears; he wants to spark a conversation about marriage as a stabilizing force. He wants conservatives to get out of their comfort zones and work with same-sex proponents, and he wants liberals to get real about the perils of unwed parenting.
