AVC Webinar: QAnon and the Church

Tuesday, May 23, 8pm-9pm ET

QAnon, the multi-faceted movement that claims the liberal elite sacrifice babies and drink their blood, among other wild conspiracy theories, has found fertile ground in churches.

How should Christians respond?
Is QAnon a religious movement?
Can church leaders equip their congregations to defend against the influence of QAnon?

We'll address these questions and more with three contributors — Michael Austin, Daniel Bennett, and Kaitlyn Schiess — to an important new resource on this topic: QAnon, Chaos, and the Cross: Christianity and Conspiracy Theories.

Michael Austin is professor of philosophy at Eastern Kentucky University and has published 12 books on topics related to ethics, religion and human flourishing. His most recent book was God and Guns in America (2020).

Daniel Bennett is an associate professor of political science at John Brown University. He has published research on the politicization of religious freedom, group attitudes and constitutional rights, Christian legal advocacy, and more. His next book, Uneasy Citizenship: Embracing the Tension in Faith and Politics, will be released this year.

Kaitlyn Schiess is a ThD student at Duke Divinity School studying political theology, ethics, and biblical interpretation. She has a ThM in systematic theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and wrote The Liturgy of Politics: Spiritual Formation for the Sake of Our Neighbor (2020).
